Airflow Dryer

overview

The airflow dryer, as know as hot air pipe dryer, is a device used to remove moisture from various materials by blowing hot air over them. The principle of the hot air dryer is evaporation, where the hot air increases the rate of evaporation of moisture from the surface of the material being dried. This airflow dryer is suitable for drying materials with moisture between 30% and 60%. It has the characteristics of low cost and high efficiency, and can reduce moisture to 8~12%.

Introduction

The airflow dryer ensure the proper drying of materials while maintaining product quality and efficiency. The air flow dryer is used to dry raw materials such as sawdust or biomass for making briquettes used by biomass briquette machine. It is also used in industries such as food processing, pharmaceuticals, textiles, and manufacturing to dry products quickly and efficiently.

The Structure of Airflow Dryer

Feed System: Introduce the wet or moist material into the drying chamber. This can include feed hoppers, screw conveyors, or pneumatic conveyors.

Drying Chamber: The main body of the dryer where the drying process takes place. It’s cylindrical bent pipe.

Heating System: The heating system is responsible for generating the hot air required for drying. The heat source is often located outside the chamber and connected via pipes.

Air Circulation System: This system circulates the heated air throughout the dryer chamber to ensure uniform drying. It usually includes fans or blowers that draw air into the dryer.

Air Inlet and Outlet: Openings through which the heated air enters and exits the dryer chamber. These openings are equipped with fans, blowers to control the airflow rate and direction.

Ventilation System: Remove moisture-laden air from the drying chamber, preventing condensation and maintaining optimal drying conditions.

Discharge System: A system for removing the dried material from the drying chamber.

Working Principle of Airflow Dryer

Feeding: The wet materials are introduced into the drying chamber through the product feeding system.

Evaporating and Drying: The hot air generated by the heating of the oil boiler quickly enters the pipe through the exhaust blower and is in close contact with the wet materials. The moisture evaporates from the surface of the particles and the hot air takes it away, so that the wet materials are fully dried.

Moisture Removal: The moisture-laden air or gas exits the drying chamber through the air outlet.

Discharging: Once the material reaches the required degree of dryness, it is discharged from the drying chamber through the unloading mechanism.

Features of Airflow Dryer

  • 1. Automatic Feeding: Use hot air spray self-priming device to automatically feed.
  • 2. Fast Heat Flow Rate: The materials are fully mixed and the drying effect is good.
  • 3. Fast Drying: Efficient heat and mass transfer in airflow dryers enable rapid drying of materials, reducing processing time and increasing productivity.
  • 4. Uniform Drying: Ensures all particles are evenly exposed to the drying medium, resulting in consistent drying across the entire material bed.
  • 5. Adjustable Airflow: Airflow rate and temperature can be precisely controlled. This flexibility enables operators to optimize drying conditions for different materials and moisture levels.
  • 6. Large Capacity, High Thermal Efficiency and Low Energy Consumption.
  • 7. High Degree of Mechanization, Large Production Capacity and Can Work Continuously.
  • 8. Compact and Simple Structure: small footprint, and easy installation and maintenance.
  • 9. Equipped with complete dust removal device, no dust overflow.
  • 10. Versatile: Airflow dryer can handle a variety of materials.

Application of Airflow Dryer

Biomass Drying: Airflow dryer is extensively used in biomass industries for drying materials like wood chips, sawdust, agricultural residues, and energy crops. Dry biomass is essential for efficient combustion in biomass boilers, gasifiers, and further processing or utilization, such as making briquettes and biomass pellets.

Food Processing: In the food industry, airflow dryer is employed to dry fruits, vegetables, herbs, grains, and other food products. This helps in preserving food, reducing spoilage, and enhancing shelf life. Dried foods are commonly used in snacks, soups, baking, and food seasoning.

Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industries: Utilized to dry various chemical compounds, pharmaceutical intermediates, and powdered products. Removing moisture ensures stability, prevents degradation, and maintains product quality in chemical and pharmaceutical formulations.

Textile Production: Textile manufacturers use airflow dryer to dry fabrics, yarns, and garments after washing, dyeing, or printing processes. Proper drying ensures color fastness, eliminates wrinkles, and improves the overall quality of textile products.

Paper and Pulp Industry: Dry pulp fibers, paper sheets, and paper products such as tissue, cardboard, and packaging materials. Drying is a critical step in paper manufacturing to achieve desired moisture content and sheet properties.

Ceramics and Building Materials: In ceramics and building material manufacturing, airflow dryer is employed to dry clay products, ceramic tiles, bricks, and refractory materials before firing or further processing. Proper drying prevents cracking, warping, and defects in the final products.

Mining and Minerals Processing: Utilized in the mining industry to dry minerals, ores, and mineral concentrates before further processing or transportation. Drying reduces moisture content, improves handling, and enhances product quality in mineral processing operations.
