Drum Wood Chipper
The drum wood chipper is the equipment for producing wood chips. It can process raw materials like wood logs and woodworking residues into wood chips. The drum wood chipper has advanced structure, compact design, easy operation, high quality cutting chips, adaptability to multiple raw materials, and easy maintenance.
The drum wood chipper is capable to cut wood materials into wood chips. It widely used in front of the material preparation section in particle board factories, medium and high density fiberboard factories, paper and pulp industries and other industries and manufacturers.
The Structure of Drum Wood Chipper
Frame: The frame provides the structural support for the entire chipper. It is made of high-cavity steel plates to withstand the rigors of operation.
Feed Mechanism: Self-feeding mechanism that pulls the wood into the chipper automatically.
Hopper: The hopper is the entry point where the wood is fed into the chipper. It have a wide opening to accommodate branches and other wood materials.
Drum Assembly: At the heart of the chipper is the drum assembly, which consists of a cylindrical drum equipped with blades. The drum rotates to chip the wood fed into it.
Blades: Sharp blades attached to the surface of the drum that cut and chip the wood as it passes through.
Motor: Provide the necessary power to drive the drum assembly and other moving parts of the chipper.
Discharge Chute: After the wood is chipped, the resulting wood chips are ejected through a discharge chute. This chute may be adjustable to control the direction and spread of the discharged chips.
Control Panel: With switches or levers for starting, stopping, and adjusting the operation of the chipper.
Working Principle of Drum Wood Chipper

The working principle of the drum wood chipper involves the mechanical cutting and chipping of raw wood material into uniform wood chips through the rotation of a drum assembly equipped with sharp blades.
Feeding: Feed the raw wood materials into the wood chipper’s hopper.
Self-Feeding: As the wood enters the hopper, this mechanism grips and pulls the material inward, feeding it into the rotating drum.
Cutting and Chipping: As the wood passes through the rotating drum, the drum rotates, the sharp blades slice through it, cutting it into small chips.
Discharge: After the wood is chipped, the wood chips are ejected through a discharge chute. This chute may be adjustable to control the direction and spread of the discharged chips.
Raw Materials

Drum wood chipper is capable of processing a wide range of wood materials, as well as some non-wood organic materials.
Tree Trunks, Tree Branches, Wood Logs
Wood Waste: Wood scraps, offcuts, and residual waste generated from woodworking operations, construction sites, and manufacturing processes.
Wooden Furniture: End-of-life wooden furniture
Garden Waste: Garden waste such as leaves, twigs, and plant trimmings. Brush, undergrowth, and other vegetation commonly found in forestry, landscaping, and land clearing operations.
Pallets and Wood Packaging
Agricultural Residue
Non-wood Fiber Stem: Bamboo, sugar cane, reed, etc.

Features of Drum Wood Chipper
- 1. Alloy Steel Blades: The alloy steel blade has ultra-high wear resistance and can continuously pulverize 20,000-30000 kg of materials, and the knife head is not easy to wear, increasing production and efficiency.
- 2. Adjustable Blades: The blades in the drum of the chipper can be adjustable or replaceable to accommodate different types of wood and varying degrees of hardness.
- 3. Compact: Compact structure make it easier to maneuver and store.
- 4. Durable: Built with sturdy materials such as steel to withstand the rigors of regular use and outdoor conditions.
- 5. Ease of Use: Equipped with user-friendly features such as self-feeding mechanisms and simple controls. This makes it accessible with minimal training or experience.
- 6. Versatile: The wood chipper can handle a variety of wood materials or non-lignocellulosic stems.
- 7. Adjustable Sieves: The discharge thickness is adjustable, the screen can be replaced, and a variety of sizes are available.
- 8. Feed Roller: The feeding roller has a large diameter, heavy weight, and coarse surface teeth, which can compact the material and force the feeding.
- 9. Safe: Equipped with safety features such as hopper guards, emergency shut-off switches, and automatic overload protection to prevent accidents.
Application of Drum Wood Chipper
Forestry and Logging: In forestry and logging operations, the drum wood chipper is used to process timber waste, including branches and other residual wood material left behind after logging activities.
Biomass Energy: Wood chips produced by drum wood chipper are a valuable feedstock for biomass energy production. They can be used as fuel in biomass power plants, boilers, and pellet mills to generate heat and electricity or for residential and commercial heating applications.
Landscaping: Drum wood chipper is widely used in landscaping for tasks such as clearing branches, shrubs, and small trees. It can efficiently process this organic waste into wood chips, which can then be used as mulch, ground cover, or pathway material in gardens, parks, and other landscaped areas.
Composting: Wood chips produced by the drum wood chipper can be used as a carbon-rich component in composting operations. When mixed with nitrogen-rich materials such as food scraps, grass clippings, and leaves, wood chips help balance the carbon-to-nitrogen ratio in compost piles, promoting the decomposition of organic matter and the production of nutrient-rich compost.
Animal Bedding: Wood chips produced by the drum wood chipper can be used as bedding material for livestock, poultry, and other animals. The soft, absorbent nature of wood chips provides a comfortable and clean environment, helping maintain animal health and hygiene in agricultural settings.
Mushroom Cultivation: Wood chips produced by the drum wood chipper can serve as a substrate for mushroom cultivation. Certain mushroom species, such as shiitake and oyster mushrooms, can be cultivated on sterilized wood chips.
